So I finally have the programs I need (thank you Mr Will Evans lol) to start learning how to create 3D objects and characters! I'll be learning this in my spare time as an extension to all my graphic design work. This is something I've been wanting to get into for a while as the gaming industry is somewhere I'd really like to go after graduating in the future. So hopefully with some tutorials I will pick up on how to use these things!! Wish me luck!! :D

Finally it's in progress! My personal website is up but it's far from finished. I was going to wait until it was all done before uploading it to the web but I wanted to have some of it up to show a few people and see what they thought of the design :) The portfolio page is currently not working, but that will change over the next few days... so keep checking it out!

Going back to some illustration has inspired me to bring back my characters from first or second year (which ever year we did the children's book project in lol) and make a new book for my portfolio just to show off another side to my work - which is usually pretty clean.

Personal Branding & Weekly Planner (Yay!)

I think I'm going to use this blog as motivation to do work and try to post something every other day or every day if I can. If I make sure I have some sort of work (big or small) whether research, ideas or finished designs to post each day I think that'll help me a lot to move these projects along. Today's work I actually did yesterday but what the hell, I'm knackered! Nothing is going to get done today - an early night and an early start tomorrow is very much needed!

Anywho! Yesterday I finally nailed my personal branding/identity. And I'm actually happy with it for a change, took a while to get the letters looking exactly how I wanted, but we got there eventually. The typography was created on adobe illustrator. :)

Also, I created a weekly planner, which is quite scary when you can actually see how much time is left until the final deadline!!! Hopefully I'll be able to stick to it, this first week may not plan out as well because of the dissertation deadline looming though. Can't wait for that to be done and dusted!!

Viral Gaming & Surface Pattern Brochure

Haven't updated this in sooo long. Well, my dissertation is almost finished, just need to reference and tidy it up ready for printing and binding. I can't wait to get rid of it and get it off my mind! I have a few projects on the go but still only in research and ideas stage, but here's some work I have finished and can show! :)

I submitted quite a few designs to the Surface Pattern girls for their brochure. The layout below is the one they liked and got me shortlisted along with 3 other graphic designers! This week I've got to make the amendments to the design, make a contents and front cover and design a logo for the exhibition: "Seamless".

I went with a simple design that didn't have shapes and distracting colours added in. I didn't want people to pick up the brochure and notice on my design on the page, rather than the work of the Surface Pattern students.

First 'External' Project

I've started up my first project in which I'm going to be redesigning and coding my sister's illustration website. For now I am just researching into other illustrators website designs and layouts, and others to try and find something that would suit her needs. Hopefully I can try and steer her away from the design she has currently up on her website as I have noticed a lot of the illustration graduates all have very similar layout designs!

Carrots, Carrots, Carrots...

First project of third year (minus the summer packaging redesign brief) in which we were given the name of a food or item and had to create an information poster on said topic. Mine, as you can tell, was carrots! All I can say is after this project I never want to see another carrot again haha!

Ulterior Website

Finally have my layout for the Ulterior Website project down! Here's what I've got so far. Went for a simple design with minimal colour. I think the colours, layout and logo mesh together pretty well. On another note, I found out my results for the Printing Company Website project a few days ago - Distinction! :) Very happy with that one!

I've been working on my own (small!) website to put up some work and what-not lately. A lot of people have been doing the same thing on my course, and/or buying a domain name to make one at some point in third year. I've got the hang of dreamweaver without any tutorials or help whatsoever, so something has to be wrong in there somewhere! I'll probably find out if I have done something wrong next week in monday's lecture with Gavin. Haha!

My website won't be up for a loooong long time, I want to make it perfect and in a few weeks my mind will change and I'll scrap the whole thing. <- This is a given! I may post some screens of it, just to document what the hell I have been doing design-wise lately!!

Apart from that, I don't have much else to show since my last post unless you want to read a pile of highlighted texts, a bunch of collected imagery, some collages and experimentations with those. I do, however, have the Ulterior website project's design finalised! Once I get working on that, then I'll have something to show for myself. :)

Created a few pages of one possible design that I just wanted to get out of my head and down onto photoshop for Gavin's Ulterior Website project - I settled upon a headphone/sound webstore. :) I'm not completely sure of the logo design just yet, that might change!

I've been struggling for inspiration lately for anything. It's really crap, though today I seem to have pulled myself out of my rutt at last. It probably didn't help that I spent most of last weekend playing Bayonetta, which by the way is a crazy but amazing game! Hopefully will be posting up a bit of design work soon once I bosh it out of my mind and onto paper or photoshop or something!!

Only 28 days until Final Fantasy XIII!!

Haven't got anymore work to put up here yet, should have some soon though. Did my Professional Studies presentation before reading week, and I was sooo glad to get that out of the way... otherwise I would be doing it tomorrow! So no worries there :) Got lots of project briefs coming in from uni and I'm feeling extremely unmotivated after the week off, hopefully I can sort myself out and get down to some work tomorrow! Also have a 2500 word essay to write... the final one before the dreaded dissertation begins... urgh! Back to sleep I think, haha.

Not much to say, it speaks for itself really! Top bar is a gallery of images (or on some pages a single image) relating to the content of the page. Then there is the level one navigation, with level two navigation appearing below. The level two moves and changes depending on which level one link you choose. Then below that is room for the text and other items.

Made a quick logo for Chantelle and co's business group. They're on the surface pattern design course and their business is based around that.

Here's two variations on my business groups logo. We are called Shoeprint, and we are proposing to design custom shoes.

The business plan is just about finished, just need to put the final touches on and print it off. Essay is about 600 words from completion still but that's a given. Sin and Virtues is almost done, just 4 more spreads to print and then mount up. Also need to make a mock up!!! :)

I was waiting for the day my laptop would finally die and wipe all my work, after crashing pretty much every hour for the past half a year or so, it finally happened on Sunday! (Seriously need to get around to buying that Macbook Pro NOW) Luckily I had my business plan saved to my usb stick and hadn't written much of my essay. I lost my entire Sins & Virtues project though. But, Monday morning, who knows how, I managed to redo the WHOLE thing minus one double spread and the cover. I was unsure with my initial designs so this gave me the kick I needed to change all my ideas and designs.

Before coming to university I was very much an illustration based designer, for some reason when I started in first year that all went out the window. I did the illustration for my fashion branding, which inspired me to take that style into this project and make it a bit more colourful and exciting.

Also, yesterday I worked at putting my fashion brand on the environment. Just have to print and make a bag and label now! I'm really enjoying this project, much better than the coffee house branding.

And cookies to my fabulous clothing models, Dom and Sam! Haha.

Over the past week or so I had been working on some logo designs for a Swansea-based band called The Vintage Sound (http://www.myspace.com/thevintagesoundband) - check them out! ;)

I've been set a fashion branding project and for this we have to chose a style, target market and then design a logo, the front cover of the catalogue, 2 double page spreads for it and, I think, stationary (as usual). Of course, I still haven't found a name I like yet but that always happens to me!

Anyway, for my fashion brand I've chosen bright coloured t-shirts, skinny jeans, trainers, patterned dresses, etc etc. So pretty much an alternative scene/punk sort of fashion I guess you could say. Well I randomly started doodling and came up with a funny little character. This went onto illustrator and here's what came out at the end...

Thinking it might look good as my catalogue cover, but not sure yet. We'll have to see, haha.
